Equinox Center Now Accepting Applications for Our Sustainability Fellows Program

 

Are you an aspiring sustainability professional with outstanding research skills or a gift for communication? Are you a current graduate student? If so, we want you!

Encinitas-based Equinox Center is now accepting applications for our Sustainability Fellowship Program, an opportunity for exemplary graduate students to gain professional experience and academic credit working for one of San Diego’s leading non-profit organizations at the intersection of environment, economy and communities. Equinox is right now accepting applications for fellowship openings for the summer of 2012. Fellows will apply their skills in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where every team member counts, and directly contribute toward helping the San Diego region become a model for sustainable development.

The Equinox Sustainability Fellowship program is made possible by the generous support of the Larry Marcus Family Foundation and includes a stipend as well as some travel reimbursement.

Equinox Center Now Seeking
Fund Development/Communications Intern

According to a recent study, America’s nonprofit organizations continue to display striking resilience in the face of the current economic downturn. A career in nonprofit fund development can be both exciting and rewarding, and is among the highest paying job categories within the nonprofit sector.

Encinitas-based Equinox Center, one of San Diego’s leading non-profit organizations at the intersection of environment, economy and communities, is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Fund Development/Communications Intern.

General Description
We are looking for a dedicated individual who is interested in nonprofit/business development, marketing, fundraising, community outreach, relationship-building and other administrative-level skills. This unpaid internship position will give the right candidate experience in nonprofit marketing or public relations that can lead to new opportunities in the future.

You will learn about the various elements involved in planning and producing fundraising campaigns and events. You will also gain business communication and media relations skills, knowledge of nonprofit operations, proposal writing, project management skills, and general office skills.

The Fund Development and Marketing Intern provides support to the Executive Director in fund development efforts and to the Communications Director in Marketing/Outreach. 

Duties may include:

  • Maintain and update Giftworks donor database
  • Create, print, copy, mail and file donor acknowledgement/tax receipt letters
  • Assist in streamlining and improving systems to enhance the Equinox’s fund development capacity
  • Provide administrative and logistical support around fundraising and other events, including creating and maintaining RSVP lists and helping to prepare event materials
  • Research new donor prospects
  • Assist in drafting fundraising letters and materials during fundraising drives/appeals, package and mail/email them out and keep track of results
  • Assist in maintaining and updating marketing information to ensure consistent interaction and accurate information: website, brochures, newsletter and donor packets.
  • Provide administrative assistance and other duties as assigned.

 5-10 hours per week at Equinox’s office.

Qualifications
Highly responsible individual with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.  Experience with databases preferred. Resourceful. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to juggle many tasks and to function as a team player in a busy office environment. Interest in development/fundraising. Commitment to Equinox mission and goals. Some research experience including online research and setting up a database (excel spreadsheet) preferred.
