Equinox Center Appoints Trevor Callan Board Chairman, Attracts New Board Members and Funders (Press Release)
December 5, 2011 (San Diego, CA) – Non-profit research and policy organization Equinox Center continues its rapid forward momentum through the appointment of Trevor Callan, co-founder of La Jolla-based wealth management firm Callan Capital, as chairman of its board of directors, and the addition of two new board members: Robert Bingham and Charles Butler. Equinox has also garnered several new funders recently.

“Equinox Center’s network is growing fast, and with $120,000 in challenge grants on the table right now, we are eager to expand it even further,” said Callan (pictured right). “With elections coming up in 2012, there is no more important time than right now to support our work.”
Founded in 2009, Equinox Center’s forward momentum quickened considerably in 2011. In the past two months, Equinox was hand-selected for significant grant investment by local institutions SDG&E and The Parker Foundation, as well as being selected for a total of $120,000 in challenge grants by the Brown Family Fund and the Orca Fund. In addition, the organization recently launched the region’s first-ever sustainability-focused civic engagement network for Millenials, Leaders 2020, as well as its high-level donor circle, the Equinox Steward’s Council.
Equinox Center’s board will also benefit from new perspectives and expertise through the appointments of Butler and Bingham to the board of directors. Bingham is an entrepreneur, angel investor and longtime community leader, and Butler is the founder of American Faucets and Coatings Corporation, a company that has been lauded for its environmentally and economically intelligent operating policies.
Under Callan’s leadership, in addition to growing the organization’s network of supporters, Equinox Center will focus on bringing quality of life issues to the fore throughout the 2012 election season, furthering the organization’s game-changing research on issues like securing a sustainable, local water supply and ensuring the region’s competitiveness in attracting top talent. Callan follows in the footsteps of Equinox Center’s founding board chairman Aaron Contorer.
Callan holds a bachelor of science degree in finance from San Diego State University and a Certified Investment Manger Analyst (CIMA) designation following coursework and examination at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. As co-founder of Callan Capital, he provides high-net-worth families expert advice in all areas important to a significant estate. The recipient of the “40 Under 40” award in 2007 by San Diego Metropolitan Magazine and listed as one of “20 Men Who Impact San Diego” by San Diego Metro Magazine, Callan has a long-standing commitment to philanthropy in the San Diego region. In addition to co-founding Equinox Center, he also founded philanthropic organization PEERS Network and serves on the board of San Diego Social Venture Partners. He previously served on the board of, and continues to be actively involved with, the La Jolla Music Society.
