Factoid Friday: How much does it cost to own a car?
AAA released the results of its annual ‘Your Driving Costs’ study recently, revealing a 1.9 percent rise in the yearly costs to own and operate a sedan in the U.S. The average cost is currently estimated at nearly $9,000 per year, based upon 15,000 miles of annual driving.
While for many San Diego residents it’s not practical to jettison your car altogether, you can reduce your transportation costs by incorporating bicycling into your routine more often. Leaving your car at home can help you cut down on gas, parking and tolls, not to mention auto maintenance.
For many San Diegans, today’s Bike to Work Day perhaps inspired them to do just that.
