Factoid Friday: San Diego Outranks LA County in Vehicle Miles Per Capita

Vehicle miles traveled (VMT), the number of miles that residential vehicles are driven, are an important quality of life indicator in that high VMT and traffic congestion contribute to air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and increased cost, time and frustration for commuters. What's more, through Senate Bill 375 (2008), the California Air Resources Board (CARB) established GHG emission targets for the San Diego region, which require innovative solutions to reduce VMT.
So how is San Diego County doing? Our 2012 Quality of Life Dashboard findings show that San Diego County outranks not only the California state average, but also San Francisco, Orange County, and even LA County when it comes to VMT per capita per day.
What can we do about it? Check out our 2012 Quality of Life Dashboard for details.
