SDCCD to install solar panels
The San Diego Community College District Friday announced plans to install enough solar panels at its facilities to provide 2.4 megawatts of energy.
The photovoltaic system will be financed, built, operated and maintained by Borrego Solar, which will sell the generated electricity back to the SDCCD at rates about 18 percent below those of San Diego Gas & Electric, resulting in about $110,000 a year in savings, officials said.
The solar energy generated by the system should be enough to meet 26 percent of the SDCCD’s peak electrical demand, said David Umstot, vice chancellor of facilities.
